I got the idea for these cables from the Up, Down, All-Around Stitch Dictionary by Wendy Bernard. I highly recommend it! It's my favorite stitch dictionary. The idea for this was from the Big and Little Cables. I ended up making little cables from big yarn.
Cousteau Cables Cowl
Materials:
Size 13 Circular Needles (~26" cable)
90 yards of Super Bulky yarn (shown in MadelineTosh A.S.A.P. in the Cousteau colorway)

Gauge is not vital to this project
One cable is 2.5" wide
One pattern repeat (one cable and the purls in between) is 3.5" wide (unstretched)
Abbreviations:
CO - cast on
BO - bind off
K - knit
P- purl
C8F - Slip 4 stitches to cable needle, hold to front, knit next 4 stitches, then knit the stitches from the cable needle
Instructions:
CO 77 stitches or any multiple of 11. Join for working in the round and place stitch marker.
Rounds 1-8: [K3, P2, K3, P3] around 7 times (or however many multiples of 11 you chose)
Round 9: [C8F, P3] around
Rounds 10-14: [K8, P3] around
Round 15: [(Slip 4 stitches to cable needle, hold to front, K3, P1, then P1,K3 from cable needle), P3]
Rounds 16-20: [K3, P2, K3, P3] around
BO in pattern. When approaching the 'P2' part in between the cable, P2 together so the cable won't flare, and continue your BO as usual.
