They've arrived! Now we just have to apply them. 

I hope they give those grubs what for!

Or it could've taken too long for the stuff to get here and the grubs are already adult beetles or whatever icky bug they become. 

*shudders*

I think I'll keep working on my Eyelet Cowl and try not to think of grubs and bugs. 

Cowls, cowls, cowls!

Cowls are my current obsession!

two Aujourd'hui cowls and and one Honeycomb Cowl

These cowls are very quick knits and wonderfully squishy and warm.

The Honeycomb Cowl seems complicated when you look at it, but it's actually just a slip stitch pattern. I have some scrap yarn that I might use later to make a two-color cowl, but the colors are orange and green, so it would probably turn out horribly garish. 

I just started working on a Stacked Eyelet Cowl, too. It'll probably take a bit longer to knit since it uses sport weight yarn. 

I'm using the yarn I bought at the farmer's market a while back. I like finding cool local products! 

I ordered some sale yarn from Webs to try entrelac. I'm hoping to make a scarf, but, realistically, I'll probably end up making half a scarf and turning it into a cowl. 

At least I'm honest with myself, right?

Free Knitting Pattern: Cabled Throw Pillow Cover

It's finished!

I'm pretty proud of my cabled throw pillow cover. It's made using a super-bulky yarn for a quicker knit. 

I just love super-bulky yarns because they can make projects almost instantly gratifying. Since I'm adding pops of color to our office without spending too much money, I used Lion Brand Hometown USA super-bulky yarn. It's about $3.00 a skein at Wal-Mart. The throw pillow is leftover from my first apartment in college. 

Cabled Throw Pillow Cover

Materials:

17" Square Throw Pillow*

Size 15 Needles

3 Skeins of Lion Brand Hometown USA Solids & Multis in color of your choice (I used Monterey Lime)
              -or-
250 yards of Super Bulky yarn of your choice

Cable needle

Large-eyed tapestry needle for seaming

*This pattern should fit a smaller pillow and will probably stretch to fit up to a 19" square pillow. To add more width to the pattern, add stitches in multiples of 4 with 1 stitch on the left side of the cables and purls and 3 stitches on the right side (right and left side as you are looking at the right side of the work, as pictured.) Each multiple of 4 will add about 2 inches in width, but remember that some of that will be used when seaming the sides of the pillow. Remember to buy more yarn if you are modifying your case for size!

Gauge: 
Gauge is not vital to this project, but it is about 4st = 2 inches

Instructions:
Long-tail cast-on 50 stitches.  Leave a long tail for seaming ends together. Odd numbered rows are wrong side rows.

Using a slip-stitch edging may help you when you are seaming the sides. If you choose to do this, slip the first stitch of every row purl-wise with yarn in front.

Rounds 1,3,5:    P7, (K3, P6) x2, K3, P22
Rounds 2,4:       K22 (P3, K6) x2, P3, K7
Round 6:           K22 (P3, C6F) x2, P3, K7

Repeat rows 1-6 until piece measures 34-36" or desired length to fit your pillow. End on row 2. Bind off in pattern.

Weave in ends from changing skeins. Sew cast-on and bind-off edges together, being careful to line up knit, purl, and cabled areas. Using mattress stitch, stitch up one side. Insert pillow. Use mattress stitch and stitch the cover closed over the pillow.
